Cotton is most popular plant based fibre and very important fibre in our daily life since it was the basic fibre in textile before any synthetic fibre. Now a days there are many types of synthetic fibre but still cotton is best because it is breathable and natural fibre. Cotton is popular not only in textile industry but also in bag industry. Light cotton & heavy canvas both are used to make bags.

Cotton Weaving Process:

Weaving process is the intersection of two sets of straight yarns. The lengthwise yarns are known as warp yarns and widthwise yarns are known as weft or filling yarns and the fabric produced is known as woven fabric.

Warp and Weft:

Warp threads run vertically and weft yarns run horizontally. Sometimes a woven fabric will often use different types of threads in the warp vs. weft directions.

Knitting Process:

Knitting process consists of forming yarns into loops, each of which is typically only released after a succeeding loop has been formed and intermeshed with it so that a secure ground loop structure is achieved.

Fabric Construction:
Fabric construction refers to the fabric specification. The general format of fabric construction is given below:

Warp count X Weft count / Ends per inch X Picks per inch

Example: 16 X 10 / 80 X 28

Sometimes fabric construction is also written in the other way
Ends per inch X Picks per inch / Warp count X Weft count

Single Ply, Two-Ply and Three-Ply:

Ply is how many yarns are twisted together to make a single thread. Fabrics can either be two-ply or single ply. Two-ply means that two yarns are twisted together to make a single thread that is then woven into the fabric. Two-ply fabrics are generally superior to single-ply fabrics.

What are EPI, PPI & PC?

EPI (Ends per inch), PPI (Picks per inch) & TC (Thread Count)

EPI + PPI = TC i.e. thread count of the fabric

Weave structure of the fabric like 1x 1 weave or 2 x 1 twill, or single jersey or 1 x 1 Rib structure
